Dear Mr Leahy,
I am a senior member of the Executive Committee of Usdaw and I am standing in the current union elections in opposition to Mr. J. Hannett, the incumbent General secretary of Usdaw.
I am writing to you to express my deep concern that Tesco stores has decided not to encourage staff who work in the American ‘Fresh & Easy’ stores in America to join UFCW, which is the American equivalent of USDAw in America.
I note that you have also received requests from Mr. Barrack Obama and Ms Hilary Clinton amongst others to encourage staff at ‘Fresh & Easy’ stores to join UFCW however from press reports in America and the UK you appear not to be sympathetic to these requests.
I will be raising this issue at the next EC meeting and would hope that I will be able to inform my colleagues on the EC that you have reconsidered your position.
Yours sincerely,
Robbie Segal
